Prophetic ‘Impression’

During a meeting with a colleague on Friday afternoon and then during the night I received what I believe to be a strong prophetic ‘impression’ which I have sought to describe here. I believe it has relevance to our engagement as the people of God, not just during the election period but to an increasing degree in coming days, months and years.

I felt the present state of the Government, politics and the media, almost the ‘state of our nation’ is like a huge wave at its peak. It fills the horizon, blotting out the sun. It appears dark and ominous, set against the children of God, dominating the landscape. If we only see this wave then we will be filled with fear and foreboding.

However, this wave is at its peak, it is about to break and there is another wave that is building behind it. This second wave has been building in the depths of the ocean and is now fast approaching the shore. It is a wave of the influence of Christianity in politics and the media, it is a wave of conviction and salvation, it is a wave of the miraculous, it is a wave that will spread the glory of the Lord across all the earth as the waters cover the sea.

While as God’s people we cannot ignore the first wave, it is real, it is a dark time for our nation, we must, however, begin to see, to believe in and to pray for that second wave. We must not wait passively for it to come, but instead like surfers wade out to prepare to surf this new wave of God’s purposes, God’s power, Gods’ influence. We must prepare in prayer, we must repent where we have given politics and the media over to those with ungodly agendas and we must prepare to engage as never before.

We are entering a window of opportunity, during the election and in the early days of the new parliament, when we can set a new relationship between the church and parliament. A relationship of mutual respect and understanding, we are to become the head and not the tail, not by domination and control but by releasing into the political arena the ‘manifold wisdom of God for our time, gaining a new respect for our values.

I believe the new wave that is coming will affect the media as well as politics. I cannot see clearly how this will come about but it must involve a new engagement of Godly men and women in the realm of the media. We need to recognise, bless, pray for and support those in our congregations engaged in the media and our young people who will one day be engaged. God is raising an army of broadcasters, journalists and presenters who will change the way our nation sees itself and sees its future.

This wave I know also has to do with salvation and particularly to do with the salvation of a new generation. Those who know most the sins and mistakes of our generation are those who are living with the consequences, our children. They know promiscuity, selfishness and greed do not work, they live in the broken families destroyed by years of liberal, valueless leadership. What they now need, desire, long for is those of a different spirit to take their hands and guide them, those with a wisdom of God to teach and mentor them, those with a different heart to love then and those with a different hope to demonstrate to them the power of God, something that is real, that works and that is available to them.

We are in momentous times, the wave that has dominated the horizon for the last 40 or 50 years is beginning to break, a new wave is coming, praise the Lord, exalt His holy name. Let God’s purposes be established, let His kingdom come in the name of Jesus, by the power of the Holy Spirit and to the glory of God the Father, Amen!
